I have a 2001 Mercury 60 HP Bigfoot. It is new to me. The first time out this year the motor ran great for 25 minutes and then died. It would not restart. The next morning the motor started on the first try. The tachometer was not workng and the volt meter did not go above 12 volts even at WOT. I suspect the Volt Reg/Rect.

Aug 12, 2016. #5. I have been experiencing the exact same issue. Well, I just figured it out and now it steers real easy. There is a screw on the starboard side of the pivot housing. Back that screw out about 1/4 turn and see if that's it. That's a ease of steering adjustment, I guess. I hope that solves your problem.

I have recently purchased a 2007 Mercury 60 hp 4-stroke EFI, and it is unable to get over 4000rpm - although out of gear it can easily get to 6000. I know that it has some kind of protection system, perhaps this has triggered? How best to untrigger this? It will need a full overhaul, new impeller etc perhaps its is overheating slightly?Remember, much of the problem with water in the lower unit happens when a warm lower unit hits cold water. This causes a pretty big vacuum on the inside of the lower unit, trying to suck water into the lower unit to equalize the vacuum. You have seals on both ends of the lower unit. i.e. prop shaft, crank shaft, and water pump.

Get some of Mercury's Quickleen add to the fuel tank following label directions.
